Explained: Questions from our Forum, Answers in our Blog

One of the latest questions in our "Hey Veracifier, Here's what I think..." thread touches on an interesting subject: the YFZ ranch and the FLDS who inhabit it - or, for the kids, who inhabited it until recently. After falling of the newspeg for the last few weeks, this weekend it was suddenly back on - in the Op-Ed pages, the blogs,...

Last time on The Real World: 2008 Democratic Primary

POSTED BY Gabriel Red, 30 April 2008 | PERMALINK

Senator Obama tried to play basketball against the University of North Carolina's Tar Heels, hoping that a few free throws, lay-ups, and maybe even a slam dunk could lock in his victory in North Carolina's May 6 primary into place by giving him immunity from Senator Clinton's challenge.

But all the senator threw around were some 'bows and some rocks. That's not going to carry you past...

The Jeremiah Wright Obama Knew 20 Years Ago

POSTED BY Gabriel Red, 30 April 2008 | PERMALINK

Senator Obama's still got Rev. Wright to deal with, and he gave his big disowning speech yesterday, but it's not going to hold up to scrutiny from the people who are out to get Obama for being a black man.

A major part of Obama's case is the idea that the Rev. Wright he first met in 1988 was not the lightning rod for controversy he has become in 2008.  Uh, sorry, that's not all that...

Obama repudiates Wright

POSTED BY Malcolm Ray, 29 April 2008 | PERMALINK

The love affair is over. Obama, speaking in North Carolina today categorically repudiated Rev. Wright: "The person I saw yesterday was not the person that I met 20 years ago. His comments were not only divisive and destructive, but I believe that they end up giving comfort to those who prey on hate, and I believe that they do not portray accurately the perspective of the black church. They...

Officially creepy

POSTED BY Gabriel Red, 29 April 2008 | PERMALINK

Last night via e-mail, Senator Clinton encouraged me to celebrate Mother's Day with her and daughter Chelsea in New York on May 10.

Just $100 a pop to get in the room - $1,000 for premium seating.  You can bring your kids, too.

Somehow this doesn't sit well with me.  I feel like Senator Clinton is telling me that if I don't donate money to her, I don't love my mother enough.

Is Obama about to get Kackalacka'd?

POSTED BY Gabriel Red, 29 April 2008 | PERMALINK

Perhaps you've seen this photo of Senator Obama looking squinty, grey, and hungover outside a Country Kitchen (of all places to look hungover) in Indiana. He's looking tired and beat up, like he knows something is coming. The media still might be on its "Obama is inevitable" frenzy, but it's not looking that way when you dig deeper, and you can see it on the senator's face.

The first...

Next time on Real World: 2008 Democratic Primary

POSTED BY Gabriel Red, 29 April 2008 | PERMALINK

This is sort of like what happened when the producers of the Real World: Cleveland suddenly bring Stacy's ex-boyfriend onto the show, and just when she was starting to get close to Todd. The New York Daily News:

Shortly before he rose to deliver his rambling, angry, sarcastic remarks at the National Press Club Monday, [the Rev. Jeremiah] Wright sat next to, and chatted with, Barbara...

Is Rev. Wright Obama's "personal cross"?

POSTED BY Alexandra Steigrad, 28 April 2008 | PERMALINK

This morning's stirring speech by Rev. Wright, which was followed by an interesting Q&A, was not to be missed. Here's a full transcript of the event or watch it here. There's no question that Wright is an intelligent man, who is passionate and well respected by many in his community, but the man dug a canyon for Obama today. Not only did Wright speak of the differences between...

POSTED BY Malcolm Ray, 28 April 2008 | PERMALINK

The AFP is reporting that the Penatagon's public affairs program to manage military analysts has been suspended. Matt Thompson of FreePress.net reports that the hard questions in this scandal haven't been answered, because they haven't been asked- with a look at the main stream media's coverage:
