This story seems to ignore the context of the Siegelman investigation, which was sparked at least in part -- and maybe entirely -- by articles in the Mobile Press-Register that exposed various schemes by the Siegelman administration. Those articles started in the first part of 2001 and were written by an award-winning investigative reporter, Eddie Curran. (In the interest of full disclosure, I was a full-time reporter at the paper, too, though I didn't work on the stories.)
I don't doubt that Republican operatives were glad that the Democratic governor was being investigated, but it's a mistake to suggest that the investigation started with those operatives. The conversation cited in the affidavit occurred a year and a half after the first articles were published.
I think Talking Points needs to go back and read those articles. And frankly, the writer of the Harpers article needs to do the same.
How many other hits have Rove and his band of merry men carried out without being caught? This is likely just the tip of the iceberg, and if I know the "liberal" media, they won't bite enough to get enough attention on this to do anything.
Former Alabama Governor Don Siegelman (D) has been convicted of corruption, with the judge currently considering a sentence of up to 12 years in jail. Siegelman and his team of lawyers have claimed the whole case is a political hit job orchestrated by Karl Rove. We've heard that before, but here it seems that Siegelman might just have a, well... case.
Par for the course

Great service!
Isn't she the same lawyer who has had her house burned down and been run off the road? Nothing to see here. Move along.

These daily briefs are great -- clear and concise.
