Great piece! I've donated to Obama and I'm equally disappointed in his debate performance. That said, I still think the only candidate that the GOP can get excited about is Hillary. I think if Rudy balances his ticket with a Dobson-approved theocon, that could change the equation and I see HRC's votes (Bush's blank check for Iraq and now the Iran military/terrorism resolution) backfiring in the general. It hamstrung Kerry as the "anti-war" candidate and would do the same to her. Thinking ahead to the general-election debates, at this point, I think Rudy and Mitt perform better in debates - more telegenic and less-measured - than Hillary and Barack. That's a worry.
Josh,
I really enjoy watching and listening to your clear analysis of the important issues.
I'm still not a Clinton or Obama fan... I'm still holding out for Dennis Kucinich. In addition to your weekly Campaign Roundup, will you be having one-on-one interviews or chats with the individual candidates? If so, maybe we can get past the sound-bites and hear more and more details of each candidate's plan.
And as I told you Josh about two months ago now, the MSM were backing Hillary and telling people she had a lead over the other candidates, helping to make it so. They created her lead because she is the safest corporate candidate they've got.
Thanks for your cogent analysis. Excellent idea to make this a weekly feature at TPM, and I won't be missing any of your reports prior to casting my vote in the California Primary.
Starting today we're kicking off our weekly round-up of the 2008 campaign. Mainly we'll focus on the presidential race, as we do in today's kick-off episode, but not exclusively. We'll dig into the House and Senate contests and various down-ticket battles. We do a lot of digging into various aspects of the campaign. And in these episodes I'll try to distill it down to the key development and trends. We want your feedback. So let us know what you think, both of the show, but also our analysis. We'll include your responses and questions in future episodes.

Perhaps Obama has already 'secretly' conceded and accepted Hillary's offer of a Vice Presidency?

Keep up the good work!
(psst... It's 2007)
we are trying to set them up for each. but as you can imagine, the final decision is in their hands.

I think that Hillary is Bush Lite, and Obama is Bush Extra-Lite
