No loyalty for old Richardson

POSTED BY Alexandra Steigrad, 24 March 2008

When I first learned of Bill Richardson's endorsement of Obama, I couldn't help but think two things. 1) Why now? and 2) Wow, Bill Richardson is disloyal. True, Richardson is free to vote for who he wants, but after Bill Clinton catapulted his political career by appointing him Secretary of Energy and U.S. Ambassador to the UN, the endorsement made me think more about Richardson's character, and less about Obama's potential to be president. In the above video, Richardson tries to squirm out of his original argument that superdelegates should vote with their constituency. Instead, he argues that Clinton won New Mexico by a razor thin margin. CNN's John Roberts tries to set the governor straight.

Clinton supporter, James Carville said Richardson's endorsement was "an act of betrayal." He continued: “Mr. Richardson’s endorsement came right around the anniversary of the day when Judas sold out for 30 pieces of silver, so I think the timing is appropriate, if ironic,” Mr. Carville said, referring to Holy Week.

This is Richardson's last term as govenor of New Mexico, and some believe he has endorsed Obama because he is looking for a political appointment.
