Clinton, Obama Feud Over Novak's Tease [The Trail] A tense back-and-forth erupted between two top Democratic presidential candidates on Saturday as Sen. Barack Obama accused Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton of spreading rumors that her campaign is in possession of potentially damaging information about her rival. Robert Novak wrote in his syndicated weekend column that "agents" of the Clinton campaign had been "spreading the word in Democratic circles that she has scandalous information about her principal opponent." Novak did not offer any further details about what the allegedly negative information might be.
Rudy Giuliani jets to campaign stops using casino kingpin's plane [NYDaily News] Rudy Giuliani is jetting around the country wooing Bible-thumping conservatives, but his plane is often provided by a king of Sin City. The Republican presidential hopeful anted up more than 2,000 last summer alone for jets traceable to casino kingpin Sheldon Adelson, whose Las Vegas Sands empire has made him the third-richest American, a Daily News review of campaign records shows.
Leading by Example: Will Bill Clinton put himself on the line? [BlueHampshire] "What is that in your hand?" asked the Secret Service man. "It is a miniature clothespin," I said, handing it seconds later to former President Bill Clinton. "When you are the First Gentleman will you set an example for men across the country and put up a clothesline in the White House?" I asked Clinton on Friday night at an event in Manchester, NH. "No, but I will tell you what I will do..." he answered, going on about how he would "finish greening the White House" and swap out the vehicle fleet with more efficient models.
Clinton Is New to Nafta Criticism, Obama Says [The Caucus] Senator Barack Obama is accusing Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton of waiting until she was a presidential candidate to suggest that the North American Free Trade Agreement -– enacted during her husband’s administration -– was a mistake. “I think it’s important to note that Senator Clinton was a cheerleader for Nafta for more than a decade. As of a year ago, she was calling it a boon to the economy,” Mr. Obama told reporters here today. “It seems to me that the only thing that has changed in the last year is that it’s now election time.”
Liberal Talkers Cheer the “I” Word – and so Does Rush [PEJ] It's not uncommon in the polarizing world of Talk Shows that one person is held as a hero by one side of the political spectrum and a villain by the other. What is odd, however, is to have talkers from both the political right and left cheering that person on— if for opposite reasons. So it was for Rep. Dennis Kucinich last week as he took to the House floor November 6 to introduce a measure to impeach Vice President Dick Cheney for having “manipulated the intelligence process” leading to the Iraq War.
Iowa Republican Chairman Takes Staff To Woodshed [Marc Ambinder] So yesterday, the Republican Party of Iowa released, in the name of executive director Chuck Laudner, a statement about the cancellation of a planned debate in December. Laudner blamed the "frontrunner" Romney campaign for canceling, a rare and unusual rebuke from a state party to a candidate. The Romney brain trust was rather upset. And late today, the chairman of the Iowa GOP, Ray Hoffmann, apologized.
