Former Speaker of the House Dennis Hastert handed in his resignation yesterday evening, effective at 11:59pm. While he gave his farewell address to the House before the Thanksgiving recess, he held off in specifying the date of his departure - Illinois Republicans had been trepidatious about the timing of a general election to choose his successor, now February fifth, which they fear will bring out Obama supporters and other Democrats in hordes. resignation, hastert, dennis hastert
