"Gay Question" Linked to Hillary

POSTED BY Raleigh-Elizabeth Smith, 29 November 2007

So this is what Hillary, Embedded looks like. When retired Brig. Gen. Keith Kerr stood firm his ground last night in defense of gays in the military (and the professionalism of that outfit in full), the audience booed him, and he won our hearts. I even asked Duncan Hunter how he could condone the audience's (incredibly impolite) response... a retired general being booed by a pro-war audience. And then we find out he was just a Clinton staffer after all. The media's a-frenzy trying to understand how this question wasn't properly vetted, but I'm wondering where the response from the Clinton campaign is. As of now, they're still silent on the matter. Is that what we're supposed to expect from President Hillary? I know she can stand the heat, but maybe she ought to get out of the other guys' kitchen.

My first reaction to this is, "big deal." This guy's served in the armed forces and he has a point of view regardless of who he works for or is affiliated with. And who picked him, anyway?

Second reaction: This feels sloppy and like a sign that the Clinton campaign is losing its fabled discipline. Not sure if bringing up the gay issue is really dirty play, but it looks bad. And she can't afford to look bad right now.
