Rove Defends Comments on Congress's Role in War

POSTED BY kevin brannon, 03 December 2007

As the Bush administration’s inside man, Karl Rove liked to say that his unmoved mover status in D.C. is pretty much the stuff of myth and legend. Well, now that he’s spending more time in front of the cameras than behind the scenes, it may also be the stuff of history.

So, Charlie Rose ate it up when Rove made his bombshell (and by that I mean dumb) statement about Congress rushing ahead of the Bush administration to authorize war on Iraq. But the story has not gone down so well in other quarters, and within days former White House chief of staff Andrew Card was dismissing Rove’s version of events saying, “sometimes [Rove’s] mouth gets ahead of his brain.”

This is all very Tao-of-Rove: Make the news by saying something incendiary, and no amount of rational argument or contrary evidence will totally erase the perception that's been created.

But for once, the voices of truth and reason are winning out, and the news coming out of the spin is that Rove lied.

He got wholloped again on Fox News yesterday when Rep. Chris Van Hollen read this quote from former White House press secretary Ari Fleischer from yesterday’s Washington Post: "It was definitely the Bush administration that set it in motion and determined the timing, not the Congress."

You can watch the vid for Rove’s lame-ass response. Thankfully, it all goes down at the beginning, so you don’t have to watch nine full minutes of Fox News.

Bottom line: Fartblossom is spinning himself into the ground.veracifier, Kevin Brannon, congress, Karl Rove, FOX News, charlie rose, Andrew Card, Ari Fleischer, Washington Post, War Lie, Chris Van Hollen
