Thompson Press Release: Huckabee a Court Jester. Also, What NIE?

POSTED BY kevin brannon, 05 December 2007

For weeks now, the Huckabee thread of the campaign narrative has been that the stronger he gets, the more intense the scrutiny he’ll face from the press and his republican rivals.

Now that he’s pulled ahead in Iowa, the obvious tactic—and it ain’t hard—is to portray Huck as being that kid who runs for class president by being real nice to everyone and making a good natured ass of himself when necessary.

Well, here’s a snippet of a Thompson press release Politico’s Jonathan Martin posted yesterday:

· A new NIE on Iran

· Major referendum in Venezuela

· Russian Elections

· A bombing this morning in Afghanistan near to Sec. Gates

How does Mike Huckabee respond to these? He makes a joke.

When asked by Don Imus this morning about his lack of foreign policy credentials, Mike Huckabee joked: “And the ultimate thing is, you know, I may not be the expert as some people on foreign policy – but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night.” (WABC Radio, 12/04/07).

Not the first time hanging out with Don Imus has gotten Huckabee in hot water, by the way. . . . .

And Thompson’s timing could not have been better.  Martin also posted on how his colleague David Paul Kuhn was the first to break the news to the Huckster that Iran had halted it’s nukes program in ’03.

I guess he can always joke that he knew it before the folks in the kitchen at the Holiday Inn Express. . .
