Dodd Did It! FISA bill shelved until next year
After ten hours of defending our civil liberties Senator Chris Dodd was informed that the FISA bill would be shelved until next year. He gave this awesome closing speech, saying he would be prepared to return next year and filibuster any bill that offers retroactive telecom immunity, just as he was prepared to go for thirty hours yesterday. He also thanked Reid for not using the powers he had available to shut Dodd up at an earlier point.
So until the bill returns, everyone can take a moment over the break to remind their Senators they were elected to protect the civil liberties and rights of their constituents.
There is no good reason as to why Dodd was only given relief on the floor by a few other Senators. Every Democrat should have aided Dodd in his ten hour extravaganza, especially the ones elected on their promises of holding the government accountable for its actions.
Here is a clip of Dodd making many promises, one of which he upheld yesterday. It is a nice change to see a politician truly stick to what they promise, even if just this once.
