Does Rudy Really Want it?

POSTED BY kevin brannon, 24 December 2007

Not only is it starting to look a lot like Chtistmas, it's starting to look a lot like 2000--at least for Rudy Giuliani.  In this New York Times piece from November by Adam  Nagourney, aids close to the former New York City mayor speculated that there was more to Rudy's decision to withdraw his bid for Patrick Moynihan's seat in the U.S. Senate than his cancer diagnosis:

. . .some of his aides and senior Washington Republicans say today they had concluded weeks before that he had lost interest in the race, in part because he had become enamored of Judith Nathan, the woman with whom he was having an affair, but also because he realized that he was drawn to the campaign more by the sport and distinction that would come with beating a Clinton than he was by the prospect of serving in the Senate.

And here we are in the final days of 2007 and most of Rudy's press has centered on a new health scare--he either had 'flu like symptoms," or a really bad headache and may or may not have dropped on his campaign plane over St. Louis--and damage to his national standing after a lot of tough questions about everything from his conduct of his affair with Nathan, to his business dealings, to his relationship with Bernard Kerik

And even Giuliani supporters, frustrated by his decision to go light in Iowa and bet the ranch on New Hampshire, are starting to wonder once again how much he really wants to be president.

It makes you wonder if his candidacy is about to go the way of Fred Thompson.Hillary, Giuliani, Iowa, veracifier, new hampshire, Kevin Brannon, senate race, health scare
