Iran claims US released video is falsified propaganda

POSTED BY Kristin Linder, 09 January 2008

On Sunday there was a stand off between American warships and Iranian speedboats. The US released video footage as evidence of the incident, and Iran declared today that the US video is 'fabricated.'

Watch the video here:

As you can hear, an Iranian voice says, "I am coming at you, you will explode."

Bush called the Sunday incident "provocative" and said it was a "dangerous situation" that should not have happened.

The standoff occurred in the Strait of Hormuz, a major oil shipping route. The Pentagon insists the boats were in international waters, and points out the released video is only 4 minutes of the 20 minute affair. Pentagon officials say that the Iranians only retreated when defensive action was threatened.

Iran is claiming the footage is a fake propaganda piece by the US.

"The footage released by the US Navy are file pictures and the audio has been fabricated," Iranian state-run TV quoted a Revolutionary Guards source as saying. BBC

Despite these recent claims, earlier in the week the standoff was viewed as normal.

Iranian officials earlier played down the event, calling it an "ordinary occurrence".

An Iranian foreign ministry spokesman said: "This... happens for the two sides every once in a while and, after the identification of the two sides, the issue is resolved." BBC

While the video the US released seems sketchy - especially the lack of video to accompany the "I am coming at you" threat - there seems minimal proof as of now that it is a fabrication. Veracifier will keep you updated as the story progresses.video, Iran, fake, standoff, warships

Funny how there is no speedboat engine noise or wind noise on the audio allegedly from one of the speedboats isn't it? Do the Iranians have stealth speedboats, or is someone not telling the truth?
