Are Hillary and Edwards Talking Strategy?
When I tuned in to watch the democrats debate in Myrtle Beach, S.C. on Monday, I was expecting a big night for Barack Obama. I just felt it in my gut. After all, he’s ahead in the polls, which we have already forgotten not to trust. And I had already laughed myself sore earlier in the day watching the ‘first black president’ snoozing through a Martin Luther King Jr. Day sermon at a Baptist church in Harlem—itself an ironic postscript to the week of racial innuendo that preceded it.
As I watched the debate, though, I got a distinct sense of the screws being tightened on Obama. Hillary’s volleys certainly seemed to push him to the limits of his patience--and if she can’t stop with the childish taunts about Barack’s “party of ideas” comment, she’s going drive the rest of us nuts too.
But what really caught my interest was a perceptible shift in Edwards’ strategy. Sure, he came off as the voice of reason when he could get a word in, and he certainly wasn’t up for another game of boys against girls. On the contrary, he all but aligned himself with Hillary on universal health care, and slammed Obama for complaining about her attacks on his voting record.
And lo and behold, there’s already speculation about what went on in a post-debate pow-wow between Edwards and Clinton. Has John decided to choose up and join camp Hillary? Makes me think back to one of those funny open mic incidents back in December. Remember the one where Hillary is caught saying to Edwards, "Our guys should talk?"
If you don't, it's O.K. You can watch the video here.

I'm picturing hills deftly filpping open a secret compartment on her wedding ring and dumping some magic powder into edwards' double skinny mochachino while they talk. . . .poppies! Poppies! sleep! sleep!
Edwards is scared of spending four irrelevant years before he gets a shot again. He doesn't care who's president if it's not going to be him.
