Kucinich Is Out (We'll Miss His Wife)

POSTED BY Chris Broussard, 24 January 2008

For more coverage of Dennis Kucinich, go to the Openers blog.

It's official, Dennis Kucinich is "transitioning out of the Presidential campaign."  He told his hometown paper, the Cleveland Plain Dealer, he'd make the official announcement at a press conference on Friday.  I'm not sure what makes saying it tomorrow on-camera more official than saying it on-camera today.  Kucinich will be campaigning against four Democratic primary opponents for his seventh term in Congress this fall.

Kucinich brought a distinctly left-wing voice to the campaign, calling for single-payer universal healthcare, withdrawal from the WTO and NAFTA, abolishing the death penalty, legalizing gay marriage and repealing the PATRIOT Act.  Last spring he introduced Articles of Impeachment again Dick Cheney, which are languishing in committee.  He was the only Democrat in the race to vote against going to Iraq and against funding the war.

Excluded from the last couple Presidential debates in Nevada and South Carolina, Kucinich's campaign has been, charitably, a long-shot.  And since the Googling public seems more interested in his wife than his candidacy, it may be that her long red hair is what America misses most in the coming days.

2008, Kucinich, candidate, drops out

So…. You need a new dark horse candidate?

Well, you’re in luck. In Arizona, there are several dozen candidates to choose from due to a strange provision in the state’s election law. To get on the primary ballot, you only needed to file an application.
