John Edwards Formally Ends Presidental Campaign
It's official. Former Senator John Edwards of North Carolina who ran for president on a platform of progressive populism has dropped out of the presidential race today. Making his announcement from the Lower 9th Ward of New Orleans, where his campaign began, Senator Edwards reiterated the importance of ending poverty and furthering the cause of working people that have been the themes of his campaign. Speculation has already begun on whom Senator Edwards might endorse. Chuck Todd of MSNBC said “it is unlikely that he will endorse Senator Clinton because of their differences in trade agreements.” While Edwards said that he was “suspending” his campaign he said that “will not stop fighting” for the people he met and the causes he believes in. There is also speculation that Edwards, a successful trial lawyer might play a role in a Clinton or Obama administration as Attorney General.
