"We Need God in Our Government"

POSTED BY Raleigh-Elizabeth Smith, 04 February 2008

More from our Ground Hound Chuck Olsen as he travels down South on his Southern Fried Super Tuesday tour.... These Christian fundamentalists in Lynchburg, Tennessee explain why they're supporting Mike Huckabee for president, their misguided ideas about Barack Obama and the Qu'ran, the Iraq War, President Bush, the wrath of God that protects Israel, and, of course, End Times.

FIRST, this isn't an entirely accurate view of the south. most people actually KNOW obama's name, and most people don't believe he'd refuse to swear the pledge. whether or not they are mad that he doesn't use his middle name (he's hiding it?) is up for grabs. but, second, this is entirely terrifying. that little girl is just spouting what she's being told. is she even thinking anything through? i don't care what side of the aisle you're on, it's not a good thing to just force-feed your children ideas. no wonder youth aren't involved in politics. they hit 18 and realize they have no reason to be.

what matters is that that's changing. and the candidate making it happen is the man who's name they can't be bothered to remember.

There are 11 African Americans living in Lynchburg today. Which is just a scary sentence, when you think about it. Check this out: http://www.lynchburgtenn.com/demographics.html
