Wikipedia vandals tar Clinton and Obama

POSTED BY Alexandra Steigrad, 31 March 2008

Some Obama and Clinton supporters are lashing out and tagging the virtual walls of Wikipedia with messages of anger, dislike and sometimes hate for the opposing candidate.

The New Republic reports that both Obama and Clinton’s Wikipedia pages are policed by content managers daily, who monitor and erase any negative or distorted information. Clinton’s page is under fire more frequently—her content manager spends on average15 hours a week supervising what’s being posted.

Some of the tidbits posted have gone from the innocuous, (someone replaced Clinton’s image with that of a walrus), to the downright disgusting, (on March 12, someone replaced the entire page with the word: “Slut!”).

The article is full of other choice descriptions that I will refrain from mentioning here, but the article is worth the read. You really get a sense of the overall anger out there. It's really a testament to how high passions are flaring on both sides, and how many haters are out there. I'm inclined to think that some of these Wiki-vandals are just haters, and not necessarily supporting one candidate over the other.

But in the end, it’s pretty sad that people take the time out of their day to write such insidious things. Hopefully, once this is all over, those who do harbor bad blood will realize their candidates play for the same team.

What? Stranger things have happened.
