Did Obama make another misstep?

POSTED BY Alexandra Steigrad, 21 April 2008

The Hill reports that Obama said Sunday: "You have a real choice in this election. Either Democrat would be better than John McCain,” Obama said during an event in Pennsylvania, as quoted by the Associated Press. Then he added: "And all three of us would be better than George Bush."

Even though Obama's comments are hardly a McCain endorsement, some are calling this a "slip-up" that may have potential general election ramifications. Clinton jumped on this during a speech in Pennsylvania, saying: "We need a nominee who will take on John McCain, not cheer on John McCain, and I will be that nominee.”

But didn't Clinton essentially praise McCain earlier in the nomination when she said both she and McCain crossed commander-in-chief threshold, implying that Obama hasn't? I know the differences are nuanced. She meant to say what she said in order to undermine Obama's credentials, whereas Obama didn't need to break the John Mcain-as a 3rd Bush term-narrative, a story the Dems. are already trying to sell, but come on!
