Obama's gentle Indiana concession - MISTAKE
Obama just suggested that Senator Clinton probably has won Indiana; at CBS News, they seem to agree. But no one else does.
I don't think he should have said that. In fact, I think he should not have spoken until there was some level of resolution in the state.
She probably will win a majority in the state. But getting up and saying, "Hillary won 50+1 - so much for a decisive win," would have been a lot more persuasive when he says, "We're going to end it," the core, take-away message from his address. Her margin of victory in the state, if she prevails, is getting smaller and smaller.
To boot, consider why CBS is calling this: no one is watching CBS right now. Switch to that network and you get the milquetoast drama Shark. Right now, you're clicking on their website because they stuck their neck out. They might need to take back their calling it for Indy, but that doesn't mean they need to give back all the click-through they're accumulating with their dicey projection.
Moreover, consider that about 5% of the Republicans who voted on the Democratic side voted for Hillary; Rush Limbaugh and Operation Chaos anybody? If you factor those voters out of the total for Clinton, her final margin gets even more eentsy-weentsy.
Hillary will shortly come out and try to make the most of the situation in the state; pushing her back further into the evening as her margin in Indiana shrinks would have taken even more of the steam out of the speech she is about to give. Obama made a tactical mistake by failing to bide his time.
