Clinton's generational movement

I was browsing the LA Times the other day, and came across this story about Hillary Clinton and the women who support her. We talk all the time about the new voters Barack Obama has brought in, but an underreported story is the new voters Clinton has brought in, many of whom are women. The historic nature of this election and the droves of passionate supporters have electrified the Democratic Party. But as this nomination fight comes to a close, the bittersweet reality that only one candidate can be the nominee, and it will probably be Obama, is beginning to dawn on Clinton voters. Many of Clinton's most loyal female supporters are older, and for some, Clinton represents their last chance to see a female president in their lifetime. MSNBC pundit Chris Matthews calls these women "militant," and balks at their obstinate optimism, sneering that it must be nice to live in "Hillaryland." But his insensitivity just underscores his ignorance. They say Barack Obama represents a movement, and that he speaks for a new generation. But as evinced by the LA Times article, Clinton is leading her own movement, it might not be as new, or as glamorous, but it still exists. She speaks for a generation of women who have been waiting for a leader who can battle with the boys, and rise up, tougher, stronger and all the more resilient.
