Sunday Show Roundup: The Long Goodbye

Your Daily Politics Video Blog: The question now doesn't seem to be whether or not Hillary Clinton will continue to wage a campaign, but rather how she wages it as the final three weeks of primaries plays out. And her comments last week to USA Today concerning the white working-class vote suggest that the question is still up in the air.

  • Ted Kennedy puts down Hillary, alienates her voters

POSTED BY ALEXANDRA STEIGRAD, MAY 09 2008 05:26 PM | PERMALINK

When asked whether an Obama/Clinton ticket was possible, Ted Kennedy said the following to Bloomberg TV:

"Well, the first is always a demand that you're going to have someone that's going to be able to assume the responsibility. I would hope that he would also give consideration to somebody that has –- is in tune with his appeal for the nobler aspirations of the American people. And I think if we had real leadership –- as we do with Barack Obama –- in the number-two spot as well, it'd be...

  • It's sometimes fun & games on the campaign trail

POSTED BY ALEXANDRA STEIGRAD, MAY 09 2008 03:03 PM | PERMALINK

From MSNBC's First Read, a reporter's first person account of playing Taboo with Obama and his staff. It's pretty amusing, and reveals a more human side behind all media coverage. It also reveals a bit more about Obama. First Read:

    From NBC/NJ’s Athena Jones
SOMEWHERE-IN-THE-SKY-OVER-AMERICA -- Life on the campaign trail is often grueling. The 20-hour days, the ubiquitous turkey sandwiches, the constant travel, the never knowing where you're going to be the next night -- not to mention hearing the...

  • NYT tastelessly compares Clinton to Eight Belles

POSTED BY ALEXANDRA STEIGRAD, MAY 08 2008 10:28 PM | PERMALINK

Moments after Eight Belles was euthanized on the track of the Kentucky Derby, I was just waiting for a barrage of tasteless commentary comparing Hillary Clinton to the filly that came in second. Sadly, I wasn't disappointed. See video:

Just days before the Derby, Clinton told her supporters to "bet on the filly," the only female horse in the race. Running the race of her life, Eight Belles came up short, not only losing to a horse called Big Brown, but also breaking both ankles, an irreparable...

    Lanny Inanity!

Your Daily Politics Video Blog: Hillary Clinton's campaign is running primarily on the sheer defiant enthusiasm of her supporters and staff, and perhaps no one embodies that doggedness more than former Special Counsel to President Clinton, Lanny Davis. In today's episode of TPMtv we present Lanny's pièce de résistance, his stint on CNN's Tuesday night North Carolina and Indiana primary coverage.

  • Clinton isn't dropping out--and she shouldn't

POSTED BY ALEXANDRA STEIGRAD, MAY 07 2008 02:08 PM | PERMALINK

As many predicted, yesterday was a split-decision, however, Obama ran up huge margins in N.C. and narrowly lost in Indiana, signaling a change in the race to practically everyone in the media. While the pundits have already called the race, Clinton vows to go on--and she still should. Right now, this is a win-win situation for her.

If she loses, as many suspect, she will have the leverage to bargain with Obama to absorb her campaign debt. Furthermore, longer this goes on, (and there's only a...

    IN / NC Primary Recap

Your Daily Video Politics Blog: It was the latest night of the primary season. And after outperforming expectations on big nights in March and April, Hillary Clinton finally came up short. In today's episode of TPMtv, we look at the results and game out where the campaign goes from here.

  • Game changer for Obama

POSTED BY ALEXANDRA STEIGRAD, MAY 06 2008 09:43 PM | PERMALINK

CBS News may have called Indiana for Clinton--which is still debatable--but she got trounced in North Carolina, and she didn't do what she needed to do, namely keep it close in North Carolina and win convincingly in Indiana. Obama has found his voice again, giving a speech that reached out to Clinton supporters, while also lifting up the Democratic party. We'll see what Clinton says, and what the final totals are, but it's apparent that Obama withstood a few tough weeks, and overperformed expectations....

  • Are 'old politics' contagious?

POSTED BY ALEXANDRA STEIGRAD, MAY 06 2008 04:38 PM | PERMALINK

Apparently it is! You know this protracted argument about whether Hillary's gas tax proposal constitutes pandering? While Hillary calls it short-term relief, Obama calls it old politics. Either way, it seems that Obama's campaign has misquoted New York Times columnist and economist, Paul Krugman, in their TV attack ad, implying that Clinton's plan would increase oil industry profits. Oh, the irony- using old politics to attack old politics. ABC News:

As we recently fact-checked, Sen. Barack...
