  • Don’t Cry for Me, New Hampshire

    POSTED BY RALEIGH-ELIZABETH SMITH, JANUARY 08 2008 12:36 PM | PERMALINK

Or: Big Girls Don’t Cry (And Neither Did Hillary)

It’s the winter of her discontent: the caucuses are against her, the media’s against her, and now, she’s got the anti-emotion lobby on her case. Hillary Clinton wants to make the world a better place. What a sissy.

There’s no crying in baseball, and though widely reported that the Former First Lady and Candidate Caboose did just that yesterday, it turns out her eyes got a little wet but by jove, those cheeks stayed drier than an Arkansas summer...

  • Keeping Up With The Jonses: NH Edition

POSTED BY MICHAEL GSOVSKI, JANUARY 07 2008 06:21 PM | PERMALINK

With all the talk of change and groundswells sweeping the media (extending even to the talking heads on the Sunday morning shows), it's easy to forget that elections are something of a hassle. For New Hampshire, this is no exception. As a frenzy of last minute campaign activity snarls traffic, keeps phones ringing off the hook and ties up local rental cars after 23 million dollars worth of advertising blared in their faces for months, residents of the Granite State would have every right to have some...

  • More from the Ground Hounds in Iowa

POSTED BY TIM SHEY, JANUARY 03 2008 09:55 PM | PERMALINK

Hot on the heels of Chuck Tomlinson's great Ground Hounds reports, we also have a report from Chuck Olsen, who covers the John "Cougar" Edwards rally:

Meanwhile The Uptake's Noah Kunin files an interview with Chase Martyn from the Iowa Independent. Enjoy!

    AdStravaganza! Christmas Edition

Christmas is now behind us. So let's take a look at how the different candidates exploited it in their 30 second political ads in our AdStravaganza! Christmas Edition.

  • Christmas with the Dems

    POSTED BY RALEIGH-ELIZABETH SMITH, DECEMBER 25 2007 05:58 AM | PERMALINK

Merry Christmas from Veracifier! Since even the presidential candidates have put their work on hold today (including Mitt Romney; yes, they celebrate Christmas), we thought we'd bring you their "holiday" (although very spruce tree-centric) messages. I'm still waiting for someone to show me a menorah... but I guess New Hampshire and Iowa don't include a large Israel lobby in their populations. I knew Ohio should have pushed up its primary.

From Hillary: She's better at counting presents than getting her...

  • Last Dem Debate Before Iowa Caucus: Did Someone Win?

    POSTED BY RALEIGH-ELIZABETH SMITH, DECEMBER 14 2007 11:22 AM | PERMALINK

"What I like about Iowa is you like underdogs," Richardson told the Iowa audience at the last Democratic debates before the Jan. 3 Iowa caucus and the primary season gets hot. So did any of the underdogs use this debate to come out on top?

More than ever, it depends who you ask. Marc Abinder at The Atlantic says it's a dead heat but that, if anything, Obama lost some traction.

"On balance, Clinton and Edwards.... Why them, and not Obama? Because Clinton and Edwards repeatedly wove...

    Dem AdStravaganza!

You may have caught our Republican AdStravaganza last week. Well if you thought we would let the Democrats skate without an AdStravaganza of their own, you better think again. Without further ado...

  • At NPR Dem Debate, It's All About Iran

    POSTED BY RALEIGH-ELIZABETH SMITH, DECEMBER 05 2007 08:48 AM | PERMALINK

Fireworks sparked over the NIE-focused Democratic attention on the problem (problem?) in Iran at the NPR/Iowa Public Radio radio-only debates Tuesday. The report reverses the commonly held assumption that Iran has actively been working on a nuclear weapon and focuses new attention on the details of diplomatic engagement with the Islamic state.

Hillary Clinton expressed relief at the findings and called on W to "pursue diplomacy" with Iran, but she was criticized by her fellow dems for that September...

How to Bring America Together or, The Idiocy of National Unity  [HuffPo]     Dear Presidential Candidates:   The men and women of the media are not your friends.   They work for a big business, whose oxygen is attention. They live or die on grabbing and holding audiences. To stay in business, they need combat, conflict, heat, meat, flip-flops, gotchas, losers, boozers, hairpin turns, heroes with feet of clay, Rockys, Quixotes, cliffhangers, firewalkers, comebacks, kickbacks, zingers, 'wingers.  And...

    Highlight Reel: Drexel Democratic Debate

The Democratic candidates (save Mike Gravel, whom MSNBC chose to bar for failing to meet certain polling requirements) took the stage Tuesday night at Drexel University in Philadelphia. It was the first debate since Senators Obama and Edwards had vowed to take more aggressive aim at their frontrunning opponent, Senator Hillary Clinton. Did she survive the onslaught? And what does everyone think about Iran? Find out all the answers in today's Debate Highlight Reel...
