  • Yes she will!

Coming off of a decisive victory in Ohio, Sen. Hillary Clinton approached the podium in Columbus, Ohio and was met by a roaring crowd, chanting: "Hillary! Hillary!" Clinton made her case, giving her supporters something we've heard a lot about: Hope.

"For anyone who has been counted out but refused to be knocked out…this one is for you." Clinton continued: "You know what they say, as Ohio goes, so goes the nation. This nation is coming back and so is this campaign."

The crowd errupted, in what has become...

  • Clinton Takes Ohio

POSTED BY ALEXANDRA STEIGRAD, MARCH 04 2008 10:22 PM | PERMALINK

The major networks just called the race for Sen. Hillary Clinton with a 16 percent margin. Heralded as a must-win and a Democratic bellweather state, she carried Ohio 57% to 41%, despite being outspent 3-1 by Obama. Clinton held her base of core Democratic voters, which is sure to raise questions on Obama's electability with rank and file Democrats. The final voting totals are still being tallied up, and the margin can still shift slightly.

  • Clinton's thematic argument

POSTED BY ALEXANDRA STEIGRAD, MARCH 04 2008 03:27 PM | PERMALINK

It’s down to the wire for Hillary Clinton. Or is it? Many, including her husband, said she has to win both Texas and Ohio, but it now seems that she’ll probably go on if she only carries Ohio. This morning, on MSNBC’s Morning Joe, Clinton advisor Terry Mcauliffe
said his candidate will win Texas, Ohio and Rhode Island, and so far, according to today’s polls, it looks pretty good for her. The tides may be turning. But let’s back up for a minute. Journalists like Jonathan Alter are arguing that it’s...

  • Is the media dealing Hillary the gender card?

POSTED BY ALEXANDRA STEIGRAD, FEBRUARY 29 2008 02:36 PM | PERMALINK

Dog whistles must be sounding off because the media is finally acknowledging the idea that there is a media bias for Barack Obama after Hillary Clinton cited a recent SNL skit at Tuesday’s debate, which depicted journalists fawning over her opponent.

In “Hillary haters don’t need a sexist crutch,” Boston Herald columnist Margery Eagan accepts that such a bias exists, but refutes the notion that sexism, plays into “Hillary hating”--it's more like people just can't stand the woman. Eagan writes:

  • What Judgment?

POSTED BY CHRIS BROUSSARD, FEBRUARY 27 2008 10:53 AM | PERMALINK

Invariably, when it comes to foreign policy, Obama cites his supposedly superior judgment: he opposed Iraq in 2002. And he did it again last night in the Ohio debate (around 2:28 of the clip). Somehow, this judgment is supposed to allay any concern about his foreign policy bona fides.

But isn't judgement the process of taking information, considering its implications, weighing the costs and benefits and then deciding a course of action? In 2002, Obama was missing one important thing: the...

  • Clinton Mocks "Magic Wand" Politics

POSTED BY CHRIS BROUSSARD, FEBRUARY 24 2008 09:41 PM | PERMALINK

Huffington Post is running a giant feature on this video of Hillary mocking Obama's hopeful optimism about solving America's problems. Here's a transcript: "Lets just get everybody together; let's get unified. The sky will open. The light will come down. Celestial choirs will be singing. And everyone will know we should do the right thing and the world will be perfect. (laughter and cheers) Maybe I've just lived a little long, but I have no illusions about how hard this is going to be. You are...

  • Kosovo Declares Independence

POSTED BY CHRIS BROUSSARD, FEBRUARY 17 2008 03:45 PM | PERMALINK

That's right: Kosovo has formally declared its independence from Serbia, bringing to an end its awkward association with the country that brutally repressed the Majority-Muslim region ten years ago.  The Serbians and Russians have been opposed to the move, calling it a breach of international law and warning it will encourage other separatist movements.

Kosovars have taken to the streets in celebration, waving their new flag, setting off fireworks, and - get this - carrying posters of Bill Clinton...

    Potomac Post-Game

Your Daily Politics Video Blog: With Barack Obama's big wins last night in Maryland and Virginia (DC too but not many delegates there), it's looking really hard for Hillary Clinton to take back the lead among pledged (i.e., voted for delegates). We run the numbers and discuss the implications.
