  • Immigration Policy Confusing?

    POSTED BY RALEIGH-ELIZABETH SMITH, JANUARY 25 2008 11:13 AM | PERMALINK

It can be for us, too. A new video from The UpTake's Corrine McDermid takes an on-the-ground look at America's immigration problem: five days in grueling desert conditions with no water, to start. For more information on where the candidates stand on immigration:

Hillary Clinton on immigration: I am proud of America's commitment to welcoming immigrants. We are all immeasurably enriched by the contributions of immigrants who have come to this country to find the American dream through...

  • WMD's Went to Jordan? Huck's Hand at Foreign Policy

    POSTED BY RALEIGH-ELIZABETH SMITH, JANUARY 25 2008 08:15 AM | PERMALINK

Mike Huckabee thinks that Saddam's missing WMDs probably went to Jordan, even though Jordan, whose largely pro-western policy is a breath of fresh air in that neighborhood and whose cooperation in the last middle east peace process shouldn't be forgotten.  But with Huck's evangelical, zionist philosophy, the Washington Declaration must not be enough:

Talk about foreign policy issues.  But he's even confused about the general sentiment of the public.

    We all knew they...

  • AP Says SC Too Close to Call

    POSTED BY RALEIGH-ELIZABETH SMITH, JANUARY 19 2008 07:32 PM | PERMALINK

While CNN is still reporting that McCain is in the lead, the AP says that his race with Huckabee is too close to call:

COLUMBIA, S.C. - Republicans John McCain and Mike Huckabee were in a tight race in South Carolina's GOP presidential primary Saturday as polls closed.

Mitt Romney and Fred Thompson also ran hard in the state.

Since 1980, the Republican winner in the South Carolina primary election has gone on to capture the party's presidential nomination.

That makes the stakes pretty high here....

POSTED BY ROSEMARY PENNINGTON, JANUARY 18 2008 01:08 PM | PERMALINK

“Screw the middle classes, I will never accept them”.

This election cycle, that line from Andrew Lloyd Webber’s “Evita” has been running through my head – not because I think the middle class crunch is unimportant, but because there’s another segment of society that seems to have been overlooked by the big dogs running for both the Democratic and Republican presidential nominations.

    You know.  The poor.

And if you read Raleigh-Elizabeth Smith’s post this morning about the poor getting poorer, you’ll...

  • Fixin' to Head to Low Country, Y'all

    POSTED BY RALEIGH-ELIZABETH SMITH, JANUARY 09 2008 03:03 PM | PERMALINK

Now through the New Hamshire loop, John Edwards, South Carolina's "Native Son," and the other candidates still in the race are making their way down to South Carolina. With a primary on Jan. 19, this battleground state will be hosting not only the campaigns but also a Republican debate Thursday organized by the state's Republican Party and FOX News.

This will be a defining moment for Giuliani who, having skipped major efforts in Iowa and New Hampshire, will be looking to get a win before he...
