  • Clinton's thematic argument

POSTED BY ALEXANDRA STEIGRAD, MARCH 04 2008 03:27 PM | PERMALINK

It’s down to the wire for Hillary Clinton. Or is it? Many, including her husband, said she has to win both Texas and Ohio, but it now seems that she’ll probably go on if she only carries Ohio. This morning, on MSNBC’s Morning Joe, Clinton advisor Terry Mcauliffe
said his candidate will win Texas, Ohio and Rhode Island, and so far, according to today’s polls, it looks pretty good for her. The tides may be turning. But let’s back up for a minute. Journalists like Jonathan Alter are arguing that it’s...

  • Is the media dealing Hillary the gender card?

POSTED BY ALEXANDRA STEIGRAD, FEBRUARY 29 2008 02:36 PM | PERMALINK

Dog whistles must be sounding off because the media is finally acknowledging the idea that there is a media bias for Barack Obama after Hillary Clinton cited a recent SNL skit at Tuesday’s debate, which depicted journalists fawning over her opponent.

In “Hillary haters don’t need a sexist crutch,” Boston Herald columnist Margery Eagan accepts that such a bias exists, but refutes the notion that sexism, plays into “Hillary hating”--it's more like people just can't stand the woman. Eagan writes:

  • MemeWatch: "Obama voters are stoooopid"

POSTED BY MICHAEL ROSTON, FEBRUARY 05 2008 11:07 AM | PERMALINK

We've had Obama the Muslim, Obama the crook, Obama the inexperienced. Now enter the new anti-Obama meme: Barack Obama the Pied Piper.

A few conservative outlets are playing up the idea that Obama's voters are ill-informed who just like Illinois's junior senator because he's shiny and new. Check out Jim Geraghty on the National Review Online, riffing on will.I.am's "Yes I Can" video:

This is a substance-free message of "yes we can, unity is good, we have hope and the hopes of children are important,"...

It can be for us, too. A new video from The UpTake's Corrine McDermid takes an on-the-ground look at America's immigration problem: five days in grueling desert conditions with no water, to start. For more information on where the candidates stand on immigration:

Hillary Clinton on immigration: I am proud of America's commitment to welcoming immigrants. We are all immeasurably enriched by the contributions of immigrants who have come to this country to find the American dream through...

  • Kerry Backs Obama

    POSTED BY RALEIGH-ELIZABETH SMITH, JANUARY 10 2008 09:47 AM | PERMALINK

Barack Obama has won the support of Senator John Kerry, the AP reports this morning. While I'm sure Barack is thrilled to have the endorsement of the guy that couldn't beat Bush, I'd be holding out for someone who, say, actually has won office.

Kerry, a senator from Massachusetts, plans to announce his support Thursday at a rally at the College of Charleston, said a Democrat familiar with Kerry's decision. The 2004 nominee will argue that Obama can best unite the country and has the potential to...
