It looks as though Hillary Clinton is well-positioned for a big win in Tuesday's West Virginia primary, according to polls. The latest poll coming out of the state has her up 36 percentage points over Barack Obama. With daunting math in front of her, and the media already crowning Obama, what significance might tomorrow's contest have on the nomination battle? CNN's Bill Schneider writes that a huge win could send a message to superdelegates that a lot Dems are not ready to join team Obama. It...

  • Maya Angelou's ad

POSTED BY ALEXANDRA STEIGRAD, APRIL 30 2008 04:46 PM | PERMALINK

Below is the latest ad from the Clinton campaign. It features the iconic African-American poet, Maya Angelou, who is endorsing Hillary for president.

The question is, who will this sway? Will African-American women be swayed? It seems like a way for Hillary to reach out to the African-American community, even if they continue to heavily support Obama. Will it work?

  • Chelsea goes on a gay bar crawl in Philly, gets groped

POSTED BY ALEXANDRA STEIGRAD, APRIL 21 2008 04:42 PM | PERMALINK

Chelsea Clinton and Pa. Gov. Ed Rendell went gay bar hopping in Philly in order to drum up support for Hillary. Literally stopping traffic, Chelsea was surrounded by fans and even groped by a young woman. From MSNBC's First Read:

Led around the neighborhood by Gov. Ed Rendell, Chelsea was mobbed by local gays and lesbians, as she walked from one club to the next. They ran up to hug her, posed for pictures and certainly invaded her personal space.

“I grabbed her ass,” one young woman exclaimed to...

  • Did Obama make another misstep?

POSTED BY ALEXANDRA STEIGRAD, APRIL 21 2008 03:14 PM | PERMALINK

The Hill reports that Obama said Sunday: "You have a real choice in this election. Either Democrat would be better than John McCain,” Obama said during an event in Pennsylvania, as quoted by the Associated Press. Then he added: "And all three of us would be better than George Bush."

Even though Obama's comments are hardly a McCain endorsement, some are calling this a "slip-up" that may have potential general election ramifications. Clinton jumped on this during a speech in Pennsylvania, saying: "We...

  • Reviving Bosnia

POSTED BY ALEXANDRA STEIGRAD, APRIL 11 2008 02:32 PM | PERMALINK

Bill Clinton was caught on tape mentioning the Bosnia story two times, pointing out how the media "blew the story up." Either the former president is trying to intentionally sabotage his wife's campaign, or he is employing some new political strategy. Could Bill Clinton be that politically out of practice? Here's more details from the New York Times. Hillary seemed to have swept this story under the rug, after apologizing, explaining herself and even joking about it on Leno. Why...

  • Did Obama damage Oprah's popularity?

POSTED BY ALEXANDRA STEIGRAD, APRIL 08 2008 03:41 PM | PERMALINK

Here's an interesting article from Politico, which investigates whether Oprah's plummeting ratings have anything to do with her endorsement of Obama. Politico:

"Almost instantly, Oprah’s popularity in America plummeted. An August 2007 CBS News poll showed only 61 percent of Americans were favorably disposed to her — a considerable drop of 13 percentage points from a similar survey conducted just seven months prior. An October 2007 Gallup/USA Today poll that showed Oprah with a slightly higher 66...

  • Clinton's hospital story was accurate

POSTED BY ALEXANDRA STEIGRAD, APRIL 08 2008 03:00 PM | PERMALINK

A quick break from the Petraeus hearing. Over the weekend, Hillary Clinton took some heat over reports that a story she had been telling on the stump about the tragic death of an uninsured woman was false. Now, however, the Washington Post is reporting that Clinton's story was, in fact, accurate. The main point of contention was that the patient did have insurance, but upon closer inspection, the young woman, who had lost her baby and then her own life, was in debt/ uninsured and was turned away by...
