  • It's sometimes fun & games on the campaign trail

POSTED BY ALEXANDRA STEIGRAD, MAY 09 2008 03:03 PM | PERMALINK

From MSNBC's First Read, a reporter's first person account of playing Taboo with Obama and his staff. It's pretty amusing, and reveals a more human side behind all media coverage. It also reveals a bit more about Obama. First Read:

    From NBC/NJ’s Athena Jones
SOMEWHERE-IN-THE-SKY-OVER-AMERICA -- Life on the campaign trail is often grueling. The 20-hour days, the ubiquitous turkey sandwiches, the constant travel, the never knowing where you're going to be the next night -- not to mention hearing the...

  • The audacity of Elizabeth Edwards

POSTED BY ALEXANDRA STEIGRAD, APRIL 28 2008 03:49 PM | PERMALINK

Before I write about today's big Rev. Wright story, I have to highlight Elizabeth Edwards' op-ed in this weekend's New York Times. It may seem a bit ironic to praise an article that is critical of the media and the kind of yellow journalism that seems to thrive day in and day out--mostly because we are all guilty of reveling in it--but I'm going to do it anyway.

We've all whined about how the coverage of the Dem race has often veered away from the issues, regardless of whom you support for...

Dog whistles must be sounding off because the media is finally acknowledging the idea that there is a media bias for Barack Obama after Hillary Clinton cited a recent SNL skit at Tuesday’s debate, which depicted journalists fawning over her opponent.

In “Hillary haters don’t need a sexist crutch,” Boston Herald columnist Margery Eagan accepts that such a bias exists, but refutes the notion that sexism, plays into “Hillary hating”--it's more like people just can't stand the woman. Eagan writes:

Sunday Show Roundup: Fred's Fantasy Island

Remember how Fred Thompson was the GOP's ticket to holding the White House in 2008? One of the great stories of the 2008 campaign has been the non-story of Fred Thomspon, his almost complete irrelevancy to the progress, discussion and direction of the campaign so far. In today's episode of TPMtv, we look at how the Fred fantasy started coming unhinged from the Fred reality.

    The New Al Qaeda Bamboozle

The Bush administration has really been pushing the Al Qaeda in Iraq line recently, constantly citing 9/11 in reference to the enemy that we face in Iraq, an enemy that essentially all military and intelligence experts agree is far more complicated and heterogenous a force than simply Al Qaeda. Will the media start drawing the distinction?
