    TPM uncovers this fascinating recording of a meeting on April 18th 2006 at the Pentagon.

    Earlier this week, the Pentagon released all of the documents that had been turned over to the Times investigation of the Pentagon's use of military analysts. It is a staggering load. But most immediately intriguing is audio of some of the briefings at the Pentagon, including two featuring Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld.

    It happened: Six Gitmo detainees accused of "central roles" in 9/11 have been charged with conspiracy and murder "in violation of the law of war." [A law we're sure has some little tidbit about rules of torture, right?] The Pentagon announced that military prosecutors will be seeking the death penalty as Death By Waterboarding just isn't getting the popular acclaim they hoped.

    An interesting Op-Ed appeared in today's LAT: "AWOL Military Justice," by the former Pentagon chief war crimes prosecutor. He says:

    "I was the chief prosecutor for the military commissions at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, until Oct. 4, the day I concluded that full, fair and open trials were not possible under the current system. I resigned on that day because I felt that the system had become deeply politicized and that I could no longer do my job effectively or responsibly."
