    New York City Mayor Bloomberg and Gov. Paterson's thoughts on Obama's speech about race.

     

     

    The New York Observer's Politicker blog reports:

    Paterson praised the speech, saying, “He talked about the different avenues of society that become frustrated.” Bloomberg, who deferred to Paterson at first said, “I think it’s an issue that he has to address, I thought he should have done it earlier, I’m glad he did and let’s get on with it.

    An aide to John McCain has been suspended from the campaign for circulating a racially-charged video about Barack Obama, which calls into question the Illinois senator’s patriotism. The video melds clips from Rev. Jeremiah Wright’s sermons, sound bites from Michelle Obama, and previous interviews of Barack Obama.

    Another interesting article from Slate shows that 39 percent of voters polled by CBS think that a female candidate would "face more obstacles in presidential politics today," as compared with 33 percent who believe a black candidate would.

    The poll shows that "42 percent of voters believe that Hillary Clinton has been judged more harshly on account of her gender, while only 27 percent think the same for Obama and his race."

    Below is a feature from the Chicago Reporter on Obama just before he graduated from Harvard Law School. In the article, he notes that with his credentials, he won't have a hard time finding a job, but wonders if minorities who must attend state schools due to financial constraints would have the right to be as "mediocre" as their white male classmates.
