  • Ground Hounds: Texas

POSTED BY MARC BOXSER, MARCH 03 2008 01:49 PM | PERMALINK

The UpTake’s Noah Kunin is in Texas talking to voters three days before that state’s primary and caucuses. What he’s finding is voters are not as enthusiastic as they were in the other states he’s visited. A sort of voter malaise. This pair of voters wants to find someone they can trust. But even then, they’re not sure if their votes will help anything.

Texas has a combination primary/caucus, sometimes called “The Texas Two-Step” for allocating its 193 delegates for the Democratic convention. A...

  • "We Need God in Our Government"

    POSTED BY RALEIGH-ELIZABETH SMITH, FEBRUARY 04 2008 03:26 PM | PERMALINK

More from our Ground Hound Chuck Olsen as he travels down South on his Southern Fried Super Tuesday tour.... These Christian fundamentalists in Lynchburg, Tennessee explain why they're supporting Mike Huckabee for president, their misguided ideas about Barack Obama and the Qu'ran, the Iraq War, President Bush, the wrath of God that protects Israel, and, of course, End Times.

  • What Does America Need?

    POSTED BY RALEIGH-ELIZABETH SMITH, FEBRUARY 04 2008 10:24 AM | PERMALINK

Ground Hounds across America!  Chuck Olsen from The UpTake launched his Southern Fried Tour this weekend and stopped in St. Louis, Missouri to gauge the Super Tuesday political winds there and ask the question: "What does America need?"

  • Primaries, Caucuses, Ground Hounds, Oh My!

    POSTED BY RALEIGH-ELIZABETH SMITH, FEBRUARY 01 2008 09:23 AM | PERMALINK

24 hours. 24 States. [including American Samoa.] Who's got a primary, who's got a caucus, and when will we know the winner?

Minnesota, for one, will be caucusing, and our Ground Hound Lorika talked to DFL Chair Brian Melendez about their state's caucus at Drinking Liberally. So what about everybody else? Here's the breakdown:

Under Democratic Party rules, all delegates are awarded via proportional representation, with a minimum 15% threshold required to receive delegates.

We're taking it to the streets. Or the highways, at least. The UpTake's Chuck Olsen, one of our enterprising Ground Hounds, is launching a Southern Fried Road Trip in honor of Super Tuesday. What's the best way to know what's going on in this country? Ask the people on the ground. He'll be talking to voters from Minnesota to the mountains of Birmingham and back. Make sure you check back for more.

  • SC Dems Get Out the Vote

    POSTED BY RALEIGH-ELIZABETH SMITH, JANUARY 26 2008 12:10 PM | PERMALINK

This time last week, and reports of failed voting machines were already rolling in. But today, the only news from South Carolina is seamless voting and high turn-out. From The Sun News' PoliTick-Tock blog:

As the first ballots were cast at 7 a.m. this morning, Horry County officials reported no problems with voting machines in the South Carolina Democrat Primary.

By 8:30 a.m. officials at several polling sites around Conway and Myrtle Beach also reported no problems.

    "Everything is going...

A great video from Debate Porridge  as they introduce us to Dr. Michael Yannetti and talk politics with the people of New Hampshire whose voices are just now being heard.

  • Debate Porridge: Exclusions in NH

    POSTED BY RALEIGH-ELIZABETH SMITH, JANUARY 06 2008 08:55 PM | PERMALINK

A great video courtesy of The UpTake from the New Hampshire debates on Saturday.  Excluded candidates' supportes were out en masse - especially Ron Paul's.  And while they had a lot to say, Gravel watched the debate on TiVo... and noted other candidates' stances on Musharraf as "drivel" - probably the most grounded thing he's had to say in awhile.  Make sure you check out more from The UpTake and stay tuned for our next Ground Hounds video.
